Transfer from Vientiane to Vang Vieng: 4 hours Cycling: 35km Difficulty: Medium

Welcome to the wild side of Laos!

Meet up with the guide in Vientiane at 08:00 for the four-hour drive north to Vang Vieng. There will be a stop made along the way for a rest and a chance to sample some homemade Lao iced coffee!

Arrive in Vang Vieng around 12:00, check in to the hotel and change into cycling attire before meeting up with the guide again for lunch. Enjoy a traditional meal overlooking the Nam Song River at the Thavonsouk Resort.

Begin the cycle heading out of town, riding off-road trails through rice paddies, villages of diverse ethnic origins and through picturesque landscapes. Surrounded by Vang Vieng’s well-known limestone karst cliffs, cross a bridge into a very unusual cave, ripe with secret corridors, wells and underground lakes. After the visit, take a refreshing dip in the nearby Blue Lagoon before heading into town.

This evening, enjoy dinner at The Veranda, one of Vang Vieng’s most charming restaurants.

Overnight In Vang Vieng

Trekking/via-ferrata/ziplining: 6 hours Difficulty: Hard

After enjoying breakfast at the hotel and a short briefing on the day’s itinerary, hit the road towards Ban Pak Po for the challenge of a lifetime!

Depending on the season and water levels, there may be small streams to cross with the help of ropes to navigate the rapids. Reaching the first mountain range, some steep ascents are to follow. Hike further into the valley until the terrain gets even steeper, which is the starting point of the zip line adventure. The real challenge awaits at the bottom of a waterfall on a 'via ferrata’, crossing the gorge via a U-shaped cable bridge.

Once on top, the view of the limestone scenery is quite spectacular. The next destination is a 120m high waterfall with water thundering down from high up on the mountain face.

Sleeping options this evening include a wooden platform under the stars or a small bamboo hut with three little rooms. No matter which choice is selected, the evening is sure to be an unforgettable one.

Overnight In Camp.

Trekking/via-ferrata/ziplining: 6 hours Difficulty: Hard

Awake early in the morning to catch a dramatic sunrise over the Limestone Mountains.

Begin the adventure portion of the day with some zip lining. Secured by top-class belay devices, soar from platform to platform, some of them up to 50 meters above the ground anchored in the crown of a mighty tree. These cables run through the jungle passing through the towering trees and waterfalls.

Then take the challenge to master a V-shaped cable bridge crossing another gorge. Continue ziplining almost all way down the mountain. A break will be made midday for a tasty Lao picnic-style lunch.

This evening, take time to unwind before having dinner at leisure in one of Vang Vieng’s numerous local restaurants.

Overnight In Vang Vieng

Transfer from Vang Vieng to Vientiane: 3-4 hours Kayaking and caving: 3 hours Difficulty: Easy

After a tasty breakfast, transfer 10kms north to the ethnic Khmu village of Vieng Samay. Receive an introduction to the basics of kayaking before setting down the beautiful Nam Song River. Continue downstream to Tham None, one of the biggest caves in Vang Vieng, which served as a rescue shelter for the villagers during the Second Indochina War. In the rainy season, it is possible to swim through the entrance to the cave. The final leg of the journey is a gentle paddle back to Vang Vieng in time for lunch.

Lunch is served at a local restaurant before continuing the journey onward to Vientiane.

Make a stop en route at Ban Tha Heua, a village next to Nam Ngum reservoir, famous for selling some of the best quality fish in Laos.

Upon arrival to Vientiane, check in to the hotel before having dinner at one of the most popular restaurants in town: Makphet restaurant. Makphet is an organization founded by Friends-International in Vientiane in 2004, in partnership with the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare, to address the needs of street children and young people in Laos.
