Escape the bustling city of Chiang Mai and discover the beautiful countryside of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. Bike uphill on some challenging roads and take in the stunning scenery of Mae Tang and Chiang Dao.  Chat with the local hill tribes and take a peek into the famous Chiang Dao caves.

Have a hearty breakfast before the northern Thailand cycling journey begins. Leave the hustle and bustle of Chiang Mai city and head to the countryside of Mae Jo. Pass by stunning natural scenery cycling along the Ping River. Admire emerald-green rice plantations while cycling at a leisurely pace through charming villages. Stop by bustling local markets and appreciate norther Thailand’s charming local culture.

Arrive at the Hmong Hilltribe Lodge late in the afternoon. Take some time to freshen up and relax for a bit. Then, enjoy a delicious dinner of local specialties while watching a traditional dance ceremony -sure to be a memorable experience!

Overnight Hmong Lodge, Mae Rim

After breakfast in the morning, head out on foot for a short trek. Pass through dense untouched jungle and walk to Mae Khi Village, a traditional Hmong hilltribe settlement. Here, meet face-to-face with the friendly Hmong hilltribe people and experience their peaceful way of life.

Leave the resort and ride through the Nong Hoi Mountain Range. The day’s ride passes through local villages lined with traditional Thai-style homes en route to Mae Rim. Take several rest stops along the way to explore several temples, meet with monks and local villagers, and learn about traditional Thai cultures and customs.

Stop for lunch at a local restaurant before continuing on the final leg of the day’s cycling trip. Visit the gorgeous waterfalls of Bua Thong in Sri Lanna National Park for a refreshing stop along the way.

Upon arrival, check into the hotel and get some well-deserved rest in Mae Taeng.

Overnight Mae Taeng

Transfer from Mae Taeng to Chiang Dao: 1.5hrs/45mins Cycling distance up to: 65km Difficulty: Easy

 

Depart Mae Taeng after breakfast in the morning and transfer over the high mountains of Chiang Dao before starting the day’s cycling trip. The first stop of the day is at the wonderful Chiang Dao Caves. Spend some time exploring these natural wonders before grabbing a quick snack and heading off to the quaint town of Fang. The majority of today’s ride cycling passes over gentle rolling hills on tarmac before a short transfer to the accommodation for the night.

After checking in and freshening up, head out for dinner at a local restaurant. The rest of the evening is spent at leisure.

Overnight in Fang

Cycling distance up to: 65km Difficulty: Easy

 

After breakfast, take off from the hotel and head through the quiet rural roads of Fang. This is a great chance to get a look at the area’s charming local culture. While cruising through the peaceful landscape, watch as locals tend to their rice fields. While weaving through beautiful winding roads, cycle through mesmerising natural scenery and some small local villages. Stop for a snack before continuing through the Maekok River Valley, stopping along the way to visit a few local temples and enjoy a barbecue lunch at a local restaurant.

After lunch, hop on a long tail boat and head downstream to Chiang Rai. After disembarking the boat, hop on the bikes again and cycle through more stunning scenery to the famous ‘White Temple’ of Wat Rong Khun. Take some time to explore this quirky but incredibly beautiful temple before continuing on to Chiang Rai City. Before checking in to the hotel, visit Chiang Rai’s bustling Night Bazaar and browse the many stalls there.

Dinner and overnight in Chiang Rai

After breakfast, check-out from your hotel for onward travelling plans.
